Tooele County Detention Center Overview

The Tooele County Detention Center is operated by the Tooele County Sheriff's Office as the main county jail and detention facility. Official county sources place the facility at the same South Main Street address used by the sheriff's main office. It is the only detention facility identified in the project facility map for Tooele County. No official Bureau of Prisons facility, ICE detention center, city jail, or regional jail facility was found in Tooele County.

The facility holds local pretrial detainees, local sentenced inmates, people booked on warrants or holds, male and female housing, medical housing, and eligible Utah Department of Corrections inmates placed in the county jail through the Inmate Placement Program. That mix means a person may be a county-jail detainee one week and a UDC offender-search record after sentencing or transfer.

The sheriff's Corrections Division page is the official source for the facility facts shown below. It describes the detention mission and lists the jail's bed count, separate cell pods, video visitation, VINELink, Access Corrections, and payment links.

The Corrections Division page ties the roster, visitation, money, and notification channels together, so it is the best local starting point when a roster search does not answer the question.

Tooele County Detention Center Capacity

The strongest local capacity figures come from the sheriff's Corrections Division page and the Utah Department of Corrections jail-programs booklet. The sheriff lists a 72,000 square foot facility with 280 total beds and three separate cell pods for men's, women's, and medical housing. The men's pod has 217 beds, and the women's pod has 60 beds. The county source does not publish a separate medical-pod number.

UDC's FY24 jail-programs material repeats the 280-bed total and adds state-contract context. Tooele was listed with 100 contracted beds, 94 beds available for Corrections housing, and male and female housing. A roster capture in the research returned 207 rows on July 1, 2026, but that was a point-in-time online count, not an official average daily population.

Look Up Tooele County Jail Inmates

Current county-jail custody is searched through the Tooele County inmate roster after accepting the roster terms. The roster search uses last name and first name fields, and the tested public profile showed name, age, gender, hair, eyes, height, weight, booked date, charges, and bonds. The roster itself warns that online information is unofficial and that official records are maintained by the Sheriff's Office under GRAMA.

  1. Open the Tooele County roster terms page and accept the terms.
  2. Search by last name first, then add first name if the results are too broad.
  3. Open the detail icon for the public inmate profile.
  4. Read the booked date, listed charges, and bond section as preliminary jail information.
  5. Call the jail or use a GRAMA request when an official booking record is needed.

Sentenced state-prison custody is different. The Utah Department of Corrections Offender Search is for people incarcerated by, or on probation or parole with, UDC. UDC states that people awaiting trial or not yet sentenced in county jail facilities will not be listed there. For a broader custody workflow, the Tooele County inmate records page explains the roster, phone, records-request, DOC, BOP, ICE, and VINELink paths together.

Lobby registration requires valid government-issued picture ID with a current photograph and date of birth. Visitors must be over 18 to register in the lobby, and minors need a documented legal guardian.

Mail Phone and Commissary

Mail for prisoners at the Tooele County Detention Center is sent to a mail-processing address in Jonesboro, Arkansas, then scanned and uploaded to the inmate's tablet or mail app. The county jail rules did not publish a separate legal-mail address in the research, so legal or special mail should be confirmed with the Sheriff's Office before sending.

The sheriff's jail rules and information page is the source for phone, mail, commissary, deposit, bail, fine, and release details. It should be checked before depositing money because vendors and rules can change.

Tooele Detention Bail Release

Tooele jail rules list several release paths: paying bail or fine, contacting a bail bond company, court release order, or time served. Bondable warrants may be paid in cash, or the family may contact a bail bond company. The jail says it cannot recommend a company. Cash-only warrants or fines may be paid only by certified check or cash, and personal checks are not accepted.

Release does not happen the moment a payment is made. The jail rules state that release can take 2 to 8 hours for paperwork after the jail receives the court paperwork. Holds for another agency, no-bond orders, and warrant conditions should be checked before sending money or arranging transportation.

Tooele County Booking Intake

Official Tooele sources do not publish a full booking manual, so the local intake description should stay limited to what the research supports. A typical path starts with arrest or warrant service by a law-enforcement agency, transport to the Tooele County Detention Center, identity and custody paperwork, medical screening, classification, and housing assignment. Utah county-jail law requires sheriffs to control internal jail operations and written prisoner admission and classification policies.

The public roster does not show every intake detail. The tested Tooele profile did not show booking time, arresting agency, housing unit, booking photo, date of birth, or warrant number. It did show booked date, physical descriptors, charges, and bonds. New bookings may not appear right away, so the roster's last-updated timestamp and a jail call are important for time-sensitive custody questions.

Tooele Detention Programs

UDC FY24 jail-program data gives a more specific look at state-inmate programming inside the Tooele County Detention Center. The booklet lists 2,083 SUTP programming days with an average of 7 inmates per month and 3,742 HB157 programming days with an average of 15 inmates per month. It also reports 1 high school or high school completion diploma, 7 L.O.T.U.S. successful transitions, 7 Inside Out Dad completions, and 23 MRT completions.

The county Corrections Division page describes the detention center's mission as maintaining a fair, humane, and secure environment for inmates and maintaining professionalism among detention staff. Program numbers should be read as UDC FY24 reporting, not as a promise that every current inmate has access to every program at all times.

Note: Confirm current custody, visit approval, release status, and mail rules with the detention center before traveling or sending funds.
